Day 24 Sleeping Buffalo Hot Spring MT to Glasgow MT

Stats: 55 miles; total mileage 1227

After a restless night's sleeping worrying about the wheel, we got up and decided to ride to Saco 10 miles away. It seemed more like we limped out as opposed to riding away. There was fog in the valley left over from yesterday's storms. As the sun burned off the fog, we increased our speed but stopped every few miles to check.

After a delicious breakfast cooked by Betty we were fortified and ready to make some tough decisions. So we headed east and the wind decided to head west!
Apparently the person who named this road is not a cyclist. Humor is where you find it!
Being out on our bike, living his dream of a cross country trip was the perfect way for Paul to celebrate his 60th birthday. The long ribbon of Route 2 kept us busy all day.
Today we lived "Home on the Range". There were no live buffalo, but we did see a prong horn antelope and a white tail deer. (They were not playing together.)
As you can see, the landscape remains wide open. At one point, we could see the water towers of the town 13 miles away. The Northern Plains are expansive.
And just down the road from our destination for the night was this old caboose. What a great way for thee birthday boy to end his ride. We made it and the bike made it safe and sound (the wheel rim is holding up) to Glasgow.

  2. I've been reading your posts everyday. Can't wait to talk to you about them. Will you feel claustrophobic once you ride in the trees again? That's how I feel when I visit NJ. P.S.
    Happy Birthday, Paul

  3. Wow, what an amazing coincidence, Paul! July 24th is my birthday as well, although I am a little younger! (7/24/60 for me)
I spent part of the day on the bike as well, but it was hot as blazes here (97), so I gave up after 20 miles!
From one Leo to another.....happy birthday to you!
P.S. Great shot of that old GN caboose

  4. Happy Birthday, Paul!!! Susan and I have been following your ride and are totally amazed by the beauty of it all and your bravery in doing the ride in the first place! Actually, it is an inspiration for us to consider doing something like that in the future. Keep up the good work, the comments, and especially the humor.

  7. I know I'm late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Paul.

Jodi and I are in Vermilion, OH, holed up in a Holiday Inn as it is getting ready to storm all night. One flat apiece so far, and (knock wood) no other mechanical issues. Hope that rim holds up for you!
