Biggs to Umatilla

Stats for today ,Moving time 7hrs38min. 12 mph avg. total climbing 2234 feet. 88 miles, 185 total.
Yesterday we cheated death, riding on the interstate, the only way east in some parts of the country. Dodging blown up tires, glass and other debris kept us busy, leaving little time for enjoying the surroundings,at least on that part of the ride. So today was much better.
Leaving Biggs, the phone rang, but Jane wasn't too busy so she took the call. Good thing we can't get cited for biking while talking, so if anyone wants to call us please do. Its nice to know we can be reached anywhere .
Unlike on the interstate , there was lots to see. The sky is ever changing, and those windmills are very Christo-esque in a weird sort of way, very calming . They make a whooshing sound, and up close are huge. Electricity is very important to us,so why not get it this way.
We stopped for a snack in this little store ,and got to be the first to sign the new bikers register. The lady did say there was a small restaurant down the road a piece , but when we got there it was closed, so on we went. It really wasn't too hard on account of the wind. I dreamed about riding in these conditions, winds pushing us along at 20 mph with only soft pedaling, and to have it actually happen was unbelievable. You could carry on a conversation normally, and the only thing I had to do was steer while Jane knitted away. Very sweet.
It got to be time for lunch, so we had to get out of the sun, what better place than a railroad underpass. And after that I spied a set out track complete with wheelsets, so if you ever get the call Markie you are all set.
The sky is ever changing, and west of us it darkened, strange to see the rain falling down. We did get to try out the rain covers, but before long it was behind us while we pushed on to Umatilla. Starting at 6am , ending at 5pm, not too shabby for two slopokes, but the wind did all the work on this ride, we were along for the ride, and what a great ride it was.

  1. Hi guys...thought I posted a few comments on the other days when I got home from PA, but must have done something wrong as nothing shows up...?Jane, love the haircut, and the draped headwear...I can imagine the stories will keep you going for years after this trip!
    Love the daily posts.
