Better get started

Training that is. We have been riding regularly, and we are 60 miles shy of 19K miles in us spread over the years, but that won't help get us over the Rockies. So today was a blue ribbon day for being on the bike. Started out by riding to Hackettstown for coffee, and then over to Oxford for some hill climbing. Lunch was in Belvidere, and Pennsylvania was just over the river,so we said, "lets go to Portland". Back in Jersey we tried the local rail trail, but so did every horse rider in Warren county. Did you ever try to pass 10 horses riding on singletrack? Forget it. So back on the roads to Stillwater, and 75 miles later we pulled into Andover. We were in need of libations, which our local pub supplied, and wow , did that taste great. All in all it was a splendid day for a ride.

What's this about.

Just a short intro is in order. After working on the railroad for 36 years, its time for the timex and the door. So come June I will have lots of time to do fun things, and since I enjoy riding a bike and seeing new places, I thought it would be a perfect time to bike across America. So that's what I am planning on doing.
But wait, what about my wife, where will she be during this two month trip? Would you believe right behind me on our tandem. Incredible as it may seem, she has agreed to accompany me on this trip, with a few caveats. Imagine eating a hearty restaurant meal every night, no dishes to wash afteward, bedding down in three star accomodations for the summer, and stopping at every quilt shop along the way ? You can.. well , thats all it took to entice her to come along,a small price to pay to have someone scratch my back while riding along admiring the scenery. Its going to be some trip, and after I explain our route if anyone has a quilt shop worth visiting be sure to tell us where it is.
