Day 39 Mendon MI to LaGrange IN

Stats: mileage: 31; total climb: 829; total mileage 1771

After a luscious breakfast at the Inn, we headed out. We have been pedaling past many odd (to us) looking cornfield. Many of the rows of cornstalks had been trimmed. Every 5-6 rows were left in tack. It took some asking around to find out, but we did, We were pedaling through the seed corn capital of the world. This method of trimming the corn proves to create excellent seed corn. So now we all know.
And corn isn't the only thing grown in this part of the world. The Michiana section of the two states is a large producer of watermelons. This sight was a bit of a surprise.

When we reached Sturgis, MI it was break time. When we were at the Mendon Inn, Paul asked about their cinnamon rolls and Cheryl obliged him with these. Quite tasty but no sticky.
After traveling on Nottawa Rd on and off for two days, we reached the Indian border. Since it was a side road there was no welcome sign. Mr. GIPS insisted that this was the spot. A fellow bicyclist join Paul for the event.
The area of Michiana is home to a large Amish population. This makes riding a pleasure since the roads tend to have very wide, well maintained shoulders. Paul is excellent at missing any "road apples" since he doesn't want to have to clean any extras off the bike!
Although a short day, the ride was enjoyable.
